3 Australians were victorious in the World Double Decathlon Championships held in Lisse Holland on the 20th & 21st August, 2011
Former World open Champion David Purdon of Bendigo won the M35 title, Richard Norris of the Gold Coast won the M40 years event and Super veteran Rod Dominish won back to back victories in the M65 years event.
They were the only 3 Australians that qualified for the 96 person limit event.
Competitors representing 15 countries each took part in 20 track and field events over the 2 days on the picturesque 6 lane track as part of the De Spartan clubs 50 years celebrations.

2011 World Masters Athletics Championships
The World Masters Athletics Championships held July 6 - 17 2011 in Sacramento, California.
One day a son asks his father: "Daddy, will you run the marathon with me?" The father answers yes and both run their first marathon together. One day, the son asks his father if he wants to run the marathon with him again and the father answers yes. They both run the marathon together again. Then one day the son asks his father: "Daddy, will you run the Ironman with me?" (the Ironman is the toughest...it requires a 4km swim, 180km biking and 42km running). The father says yes again. Australian Masters athletes Peter Crombie(NSW) and Marie Kay (QLD) have won the most prestigious award an athlete can receive, they have been named the ‘Best in the World’, 2010. Peter and Marie will travel to Monaco in November to be honoured during the International Athletic Federation Gala. This Gala celebrates the year of Athletics around the world and is the climax of the achievements of the sport each year. Peter and Marie’s selection means that they now join a very elite group of athletes who have been voted as the best in the world.
Both athletes have demonstrated over many years outstanding credentials – Peter an exceptional sprinter and Marie an extremely talented all-rounder, the standards both athletes have attained and maintained over several years are absolutely remarkable. This award is a reward for their dedication and commitment to the sport of Athletics. This is an outstanding result and great honour for Australian Masters Athletics to have Peter and Marie honoured as ‘BEST IN THE WORLD’ for 2010, congratulations to both well deserving athletes.
